Cellar News: The WGBH Fest and Classes

The Winch!

Things have been insane-o-busy ’round these parts since The Winch opened! That’s what we’re calling our just-opened second location in Winchester — the 500-square foot store at 18 Thompson St. is small, but packs in plenty of all New England-only brews. So what else is news? Read on to find out.

The WGBH Craft Beer Festival is Saturday, July 13 from 7 to 10 pm, and we’ll be there along with tons of local brewers (Boston Beer Works, Harpoon Brewery, Mystic Brewery, Naukabout, Newburyport Brewing Co., Peak Organic, Percival Beer Company, Pretty Things, Samuel Adams, Slumbrew, and Smuttynose to name a few), food vendors, as well as the Homebrew Emporium for an evening of craft beer awesomeness. Kate and Suzanne will be doing an education extravaganza about Trappist beer and serving at least one beer from each of the eight Trappist breweries of the world while going over their histories, what they do besides brewing beer, and what it all means. And if you’re wondering, the answer is yes: there WILL be Westvleteren, so snag your ticket stat!

For anyone who missed our Craft Beer 101 course at the Boston Center for Adult Education in June, we’ve got a couple “taster” classes coming up Tuesday, September 3rd. There will be two one-hour sessions (6-7 and 7:30-8:30) and each will feature two beers paired with cheese. Our beer geek teachers Adam Mackie and Tony Porreca will be back to teach these classes, so once we have signup info we will make sure to share it with you.

Beyond that, know that we’re working on more new store locations and as soon as we’re able to share more of those details, rest assured we will!
