If you follow us on Twitter and/or Facebook, you’ve probably noticed we’ve been rather, ahem, encouraging about suggesting that you sign up for the Cambridge 5K Freedom Run with team Craft Beer Cellar. And if you don’t follow us on Twitter or Facebook, what’s up with that?! Get on it, yo!
So what’s the race all about? It’s on Sunday, May 26th, exactly one month from today, which is Memorial Day weekend. As such, the race is a “hyperpatriotic” race that honors those who have fought to protect our country. Proceeds benefit the Glen Doherty Memorial Foundation and the East Cambridge Business Association. Doherty was one of four Americans who were killed in Benghazi, Libya during a terrorist attack on September 12, 2012.
Freedom is unequivocally amazing thing. Despite our daily struggles, challenges, and woes, we’re grateful to live somewhere where we can speak our minds, pursue our dreams, and drink great craft beer. We realize that these things are remarkable privileges to have in this world, which is why we’ll be running with great gusto among our peers next month. We hope you choose to be one of them! And a huge thanks to those who have already signed up for our team. Last we checked, we were the third largest team…help us be the second or first!
We also have to say that in the wake of the horrendous events of this year’s Marathon Monday, we are very much looking forward to honoring not only our country’s veterans, but all of the victims of this senseless act of violence.
The cost is $38 and participants will get a (totally sweet, exclusively designed) Craft Beer Cellar t-shirt. Notch Brewing, Slumbrew, and Baxter Brewing Co. are sponsors, so you can also expect some tasty suds at the finish line.
We’ve also had a lot people ask us whether or not they actually have to run the race. Whether you have injuries or a simple hatred of running (which we can totally relate to), the answer is no: you don’t have to run if you don’t want to. You can walk, skip, hop, or dance for all we care. The point isn’t to win (unless you want to). The point is to participate and have a great time. Our Team Captain and social media m
onster manager is threatening to dress up in costume, so feel free to follow suit…whatever your preferred suit may be.
So what are you waiting for? Do it! More information on the race can be found here, and you can register here. Just click “Freedom Run,” then “Register,” and fill out your info and pick our team (Craft Beer Cellar) from the drop down menu.
