This week is special around here and we’ve received a ton of new beer to aid in the celebration. Check it out:
Blackberry Farm Classic Saison – VERY LIMITED – NEW BREWERY!
Saison “Classic Saison” This is a Belgian-style farmhouse ale. The aroma is dominated by fruity esters reminiscent of citrus fruits along with a moderate earthy and floral hop aroma from the use of Noble-type hops in the brewing process. Has a deep gold, hue that is often hazy, and a voluminous head on pouring as a result of the bottle-conditioning and high natural carbonation. The beer is medium-bodied and has a very refreshing effervescence which, along with a fairly low alcohol content of 6% by volume, makes this a beer to be enjoyed on a warm day by itself or with a wide range of foods, whether casual or fine dining. Complex flavors and aromas in this beer are a result of the special yeast used in fermentation combined with the additional complexity added by bottle-conditioning in large bottles for at least six weeks before being released.
Against The Grain Bay and Pepper Your Bretts – EXTREMELY LIMITED
This culinary delight is a rich farmhouse-style saison brewed with a generous helping of aromatic Turkish bay leaves and a dose of coarsely ground Tellicherry black peppercorns. The wild fermentation is finished off with cultured brettanomyces, which lend a noticeable sour note. As a collaboration between celebrated Louisville chef, Josh Lehman, and the brewers at Against the Grain, this beer highlights the interplay of cooking and brewing in a single glass. Complex, yet refreshing, this beer has a wild, perfumey aroma that prepares the palate for the tangy, yeasty flavor that mingles with spiciness from the spices as well as the phenols produced in fermentation.
Against The Grain Brown Note CANS!
The brown ale to end all brown ales. Enjoy it, because there is no longer any reason to drink another. You’ve reached the pinnacle. A healthy blend of traditional British malts give this popular style a semi-sweet, biscuity, slightly roasted flavor. Oats thicken the mouthfeel, and a handful of specialty malts add complex chocolate, toffee, and caramel notes. The hops are mostly traditional, earthy British hops, but we cocked it up a bit with some Cascade late in the boil just to show those snooty Brits that we don’t approve of that Constitutional Monarchy crap.
Against The Grain Sho Nuff CANS!
This Belgian table bier is a traditional entry into the Session category. It is meant to be consumed with food but also stands well on its own. When you need to drink the whole meal and want something with plenty of flavor but don’t want to get shit-twisted from the alcohol, this is a great choice. Look for a smooth malty body with hints of biscuit and rye. The hops are subdued and mostly present as a bittering agent. The yeast plays a prominent role increating bready and lightly fruity notes.
Charleville Strawberry Blonde
Strawberry season reminds us that summer is almost here. This sexy blonde ale would not be complete without the seductive essence of strawberries. Balanced and refreshing, this blonde is sure to please!
Ommegang Belgian Independence
Odell Barrel Thief – EXTREMELY LIMITED
The hop has met its match! Barrel Thief is an Imperial IPA that was stolen from the brewhouse and stashed away in medium toast, new American oak barrels. The brew features a notorious tropical fruit hop character that tangles with hints of vanilla, dried fruit, and toasted nut from its time served in the barrel.
Root Sellers Ginger Beer
Evil Twin Fire Water
Many of us have a passionate love-hate relationship with painfully spicy foods- there is simply something substantial fascinating, thrilling and a little frightening about a burning sensation in your mouth. Scientist are at a loss why humans (and only humans) find such great joy in tasty pain. Perhaps it’s what makes us human- it takes a complicated brain, mixed with weird self awareness to enjoy events that the body are programmed to treat as a threat but the mind knows better. Test your human skills with this burning beer – mind over body. Fire walk with me.
